Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a hormone for the maternal recognition of pregnancy produced by trophoblast cells that are surrounding a growing embryo,which eventually forms the placenta after implantation.The presence of hCG is detected in some pregnancy tests.

hCG is produced during pregnancy. Urine tests can be affected by what time of day that you take the test and dehydration. A blood test can provide more conclusive results. 

The human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) test is done to check for the hormone hCG in blood or urine. Some hCG tests measure the exact amount. Some just check to see if the hormone is present. HCG is made by the placenta during pregnancy. The test can be used to see if a woman is pregnant. Or it can be done as part of a screening test for birth defects.

The hCG blood test is performed to confirm pregnancy,determine the approximate age of the fetus,diagnose an abnormal pregnancy such as an ectopic pregnancy,diagnose a potential miscarriage or screen for Down syndrome.The quantitative test measures the level of hCG hormone in a blood sample.hCG is a glycoprotein that triggers the corpus luteum and encourages the production of progesterone, which causes the enrichment and thickening of the uterine wall to nurture the growing fetus.
