URIC ACID
Uric acid is a natural waste product from the digestion of foods that contain purines.
A high uric acid level is known as hyperuricemia. This can lead to a disease called gout that causes painful joints that accumulate urate crystals. It can also make your blood and urine too acidic.
A uric acid test is not done as a routine blood test. But, if you have a a health problem that can cause or be caused by high uric acid levels, it can be useful to measure it. High levels of uric acid can cause gout and you'll need to try and lower it. If you have symptoms of gout, you need to test a uric acid blood test, which measures how much uric acid you have in your blood.
Gout is a form of arthritis that causes swelling of the joints, especially in the feet and big toes. Another cause of hyperuricemia is increased cell death, due to cancer or cancer treatments. This can lead to an accumulation of uric acid in the body. It’s also possible to have too little uric acid in your blood, which is a symptom of liver or kidney disease.
